DRAGONFLY AS CHRISTIANITY SYMBOLISM (There are many other religious and spiritual meanings as well. They are all beautiful !)
A dragonfly is born underwater and lives in the dark before rising up to the light. When it first emerges, it is colorless and transparent. But, when sunlight hits its body, it becomes beautiful, colorful, and magical. Thus, light transforms the dragonfly. This is symbolic to Christians in the way they can all become transformed and colorful when the light of Lord Jesus shines upon them. Matthew 5:14-16 states: “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and hide it under the bowl. Instead, they put it on a stand so its light can be shone upon everybody so that the light can shine and illuminate everyone. In the same way, let your light shine upon men. Let them see and praise your good deeds. You, in turn, praise the Father in heaven.” Dragonflies are reminders to keep our sight upon God. They represent change. As a creature in the water, they represent the lack of knowledge and awareness. As they come out in the light and become beautiful, they represent our movement into the Light of God from the depths of disillusionment and darkness.

DRAGONFLY SPIRIT ANIMAL:The totem of a dragonfly carries a sense of identity. It ensures the virtue of living freely. It unmasks the real personality that lies dormant within each individual. They remove any element that is not a part of real life. Often, people suffer from self-doubt. That may hinder their ability to move ahead. Here, a dragonfly urges people to get rid of their doubts and live life. A “wonder animal” is the spirit animal of the dragonfly. It also represents the purity of being. The spirit animal urges people to take chances and realize the potential within them. It helps them understand that they can fully realize their potential.
DRAGONFLY SPIRITUAL MEANING: prosperity, strength, courage, peace, harmony, and purity.

Dragonfly ...

ABOUT THEM AND SOME VERY VALUABLE LESSONS TO LEARN:

** Perhaps the most important lesson of the dragonfly lies in its short life span. They live a complete life in only seven months. Let the dragonfly be a reminder to you to live life fully present. Let it teach you to look out for the gifts and beauty that you encounter each day.
** The Dragonfly normally lives most of its life as a nymph or an immature. It flies only for a fraction of its life. This symbolizes and exemplifies the virtue of living in the moment and living life to the fullest. By living in the moment you are aware of who you are, where you are, what you are doing, what you want, what you don’t, and to make informed choices on a moment-to-moment basis.
** They are powerful yet graceful – even in high wind. They show us how to navigate life’s storms with confidence and ease. They motivate us to let go of whatever holds us down or holds us back.
** A dragonfly is a bringer of light and so much more! Not only does it symbolize change in life, it specifically represents a change in perspective and a shift toward self-realization. Change is rarely easy. Because of this, the ability to be open to it and accept it requires maturity. They symbolize this maturity as well as our ability to see the deeper meaning of life.
** They move easily in all six directions. If you’ve watched them, you’ve become aware of their grace and poise. Two qualities that come with the acceptance of change and maturity.
** With roughly 20 times more power in each flap of its wings, it isn’t a clunky or heavy insect. It remains elegant in its strength.
** When in flight, dragonflies have to embrace the changes that can occur in the environment in order to maintain balance during flight.
** They are also strongly associated with water because they begin their lives in ponds and small bodies of water. They learn to scurry across water surfaces – a strong symbol that represents an act of going beyond what’s on the surface and looking into the deeper implications and aspects of life, a person or situation. Life is complex and as creatures of both air and water, dragonflies remind us of this. They move with elegance and grace.
** The Dragonfly is iridescent both on its wings and body. Iridescence shows itself in different colors depending on the angle and how the light falls on it. The magical property of iridescence is also associated with the discovery of one’s own abilities by unmasking the real self and removing the doubts one casts on his/her own sense of identity.
** It’s easy to notice the fairy-like quality of the dragonfly. This likeness make them an auspicious connection to nature and her spirits. They are fascinating creatures, and feelings of fascination and amazement are need to tap into the magic of nature, lightness, and the elements.
